Started in Bangladesh under the direction of the Grameen Bank, Village Phone has been replicated and adapted with support from Grameen Foundation’s Technology Center in Uganda, Rwanda, the Philippines, Cambodia, Haiti and Indonesia. Our goal is to help create a global Village Phone movement that provides the world’s rural poor with access to reliable and affordable telecommunications. With that in mind the Assistance Center was initiated to support Village Phone programs throughout the world.

The Village Phone Team works out of the Grameen Technology Center, an initiative of the Grameen Foundation. The Grameen Technology Center is committed to developing sustainable technology solutions that improve the delivery of microfinance and address the needs of impoverished communities around the world.
